Trump and Putin “face to face” in Alaska to talk peace

Just hours before the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska's largest city, NBC News reports that the US President is expected to receive his Russian counterpart with a "red carpet" reception at Elmendorf-Richardson military base, citing two members of the US administration.
The Russian Foreign Minister has already landed in Anchorage, Alaska, and arrived at his hotel wearing a Soviet Union t-shirt. Speaking to reporters, Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow will present a "clear and understandable" position to Donald Trump during the meeting.
Russia's foreign minister hopes the dialogue will be a continuation of the "productive talks" between the Russian delegation and US special envoy Steve Witkoff. "Much has already been accomplished during Witkoff's visits; we hope to continue these productive talks."
Ukraine's future now lies in Alaska, a former Russian colony where the presidents of the United States and Russia will meet without the participation of the country invaded by Moscow.
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will speak face-to-face about the war Russia launched in February 2022, when it invaded the neighboring country to "demilitarize and denazify" it, as the Russian leader announced at the time.
After an initial conversation with only interpreters present, delegations from both countries will join Trump and Putin in a meeting that will include a working lunch, according to the program announced by Russian authorities.
The summit, during which other topics related to international security will be discussed, is scheduled for 11:30 am local time (8:30 pm in Lisbon).
It will take place at a military base near Anchorage, the capital of the largest of the 50 US states, wedged between Canada and Russia, located just 82 kilometers across the Bering Strait.
